What is the normal trial period?

The normal probationary period (also called "Probezeit") for a new driver's license in Germany is 2 years. This means for two years after getting your license, stricter rules apply: serious or repeated traffic violations during this time can lead to additional measures like attending a seminar or having your probation period extended. The aim is to promote careful and responsible driving among new drivers. If you follow the rules and do not commit major offenses during these two years, your license becomes a standard license after the probation ends. One year or three years are not correct for the regular probationary period in Germany.
